Picture of the article on the Film & Discussion: A better understanding of brain health

From 14 to 18 June 2026, Bordeaux will become the world capital of neuroscience as it hosts the annual congress of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM), the largest international gathering dedicated to mapping the human brain. More than 4,000 neuroscientists from around the world are expected to attend and share the latest research advances.

On this occasion, VBHI is offering a film and discussion event for the general public on Tuesday 9 June at 6 pm at UGC Ciné Cité in Bordeaux, to help people better understand the challenges of brain health.

Brain health: a major issue

What is brain health? How can it be preserved in everyday life?

Physical activity, stroke prevention, reducing the risk of dementia: these are among the key topics at the heart of the research conducted by the VBHI Institute.

This evening will provide practical answers based on scientific research.

Screening and discussion

The event will centre around a screening of the documentary My Love Affair with the Brain, directed by Catherine Ryan and Gary Weimberg.

The film traces the career of pioneering neuroscientist Marian Diamond and highlights brain plasticity — the brain’s ability to change and adapt throughout life.

The screening will be followed by a discussion (in French) with Dr Michel Thiébaut de Schotten, Deputy Director at VBHI for “Artificial Intelligence & Imaging” and Head of the Neurofunctional Imaging Group at the Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases (Bordeaux Neurocampus) and Dr Stéphane Olindo, a neurologist in the Neurovascular Department at Bordeaux University Hospital. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with an internationally renowned researcher and a stroke specialist.

Interactive stands to explore and experience

Throughout the evening, interactive stands will offer opportunities to learn more:

  • Raising awareness of stroke symptoms through engaging activities led by the Maison du Cerveau association
  • Meeting the AIT AVC Carpe Diem association
  • Blood pressure measurement (a key risk factor for stroke)
  • Introduction to neurofeedback for post-stroke recovery
  • Demonstrations of brain stimulation technologies
  • Practical advice for maintaining brain health
