The French President announces the Vascular Brain Health Institute (VBHI) as one of the winners of the national France2030 investment plan IHU3 funding programme.
A centre of excellence in Bordeaux…
On Tuesday May 16, 2023, the French Government announced 12 new IHUs and four bioclusters as part of the “Innovation Santé 2030” plan. The VBHI is one of 16 new programmes of excellence supported to accelerate research and innovation in healthcare.
The new University Hospital Institute, dedicated to vascular brain health, is headed by Stéphanie Debette, Professor at the University of Bordeaux and the University Hospital and Director of the Bordeaux Population Health Research Centre (partnered with the University of Bordeaux and Inserm).
…A spotlight on vascular brain health
The Institute aims to deliver new approaches integrating population health and therapeutic innovation in to:
- combat the most common neurological diseases, stroke and dementia
- promote healthy brain ageing for all
The VBHI sits at the heart of an emerging global effort to drive vascular brain research forward while maximising its impact on innovation, care, inclusion and socio-economic issues locally and globally.
“I believe our project has been selected because it focuses on vascular and cerebral diseases, one of the main sources of mortality and disability worldwide but also because it will develop new ways of integrating population health and therapeutic innovation to combat the most common neurological diseases, stroke and dementia, all while promoting healthy ageing of the brain. This IHU intersects and build on the strength of existing centres of excellence in Bordeaux focused on public health, neurosciences, and cardiovascular health”,
Stéphanie Debette, director of the VBHI.
