Visuel de l'article sur la soirée AVC du 29 octobre 2025

VBHI is organising an evening dedicated to the prevention of strokes on Wednesday, 29th October at 6:00 PM at the Café des Sciences at Cap Sciences!

What is a stroke? How does imaging research contribute to stroke prevention?

In a friendly setting conducive to discussion, come and meet two brain health experts to better understand strokes and the latest advancements in research (in French).

  • Dr. Stéphane Olindo, neurologist at the Neuro-Vascular Department of the Bordeaux University Hospital, will explain what a stroke is, how to recognise it, and why prevention is essential.
  • Dr. Michel Thiébaut de Schotten, CNRS research director, University of Bordeaux, and VBHI Deputy Director, will show how brain imaging is helping us to better understand and anticipate strokes.

Ask your questions, engage directly with the speakers, and leave with valuable insights on how to take action!

Programme

  • 6:00 PM – Welcome
  • 6:00–6:30 PM – Stalls:
    • Learn more about stroke symptoms by experiencing them first-hand through interactive activities with Dr. Rabia Benazzouz, Research Engineer – Neurobiologist, member of the Maison du Cerveau.
    • Hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke. Measure your blood pressure with Christel Sanchez-Cortes, nurse in the stroke pathway and post-stroke consultation, Neuro-Vascular Unit at Bordeaux University Hospital.
    • Stroke is the leading cause of disability in adults and often results in paralysis. Discover neurofeedback technology — a method connecting brains and computers to help regain movement — with Elise Grevet, PhD student in the Motor Control and Cognition (Mococo) team at Incia, Bordeaux Neurocampus, and Cloé Guerrini, occupational therapist at Bordeaux University Hospital.
  • 6:30–6:45 PM: “What is a Stroke?” Dr. Stéphane Olindo, neurologist at the Neuro-Vascular Department of the Bordeaux University Hospital.
  • 6:45–7:00 PM: Questions/Discussion with the audience
  • 7:00–7:15 PM: “Imaging Research: How Does It Help with Stroke Prevention?” Dr. Michel Thiébaut de Schotten, CNRS Research Director, University of Bordeaux.

VBHI is co-organising, together with the Centre for Magnetic Resonance of Biological Systems (CRMSB) – CNRS and the University of Bordeaux, the 1st International Symposium on the Use of Low and Ultra-Low Field MRI, taking place on 25–26 November in Bordeaux!

How can you support the Institute?

Your help is essential in the fight against stroke and dementia, and for the promotion of healthy brain ageing.

By supporting cutting-edge research to develop new prevention strategies and personalised therapies for vascular brain diseases, you are helping reduce the burden of these diseases worldwide.

Your donation entitles you to a tax reduction.
E.g.: If I am taxable and I donate €50, my donation will only cost me €12 after tax reduction.
