Candice Chapouly trained as a pharmacist. After completing a PhD in cell biology and pathophysiology at the University of Bordeaux on nerve-vessel dialogue in diabetes, her interest in vascular barriers led her to complete a post-doctorate in Gareth John’s team at Mount Sinai Hospital (NYC, USA) between 2014 and 2019. There, she studied the impact of astrocytes on the blood-brain barrier in multiple sclerosis. The award of a European MSCA-IF fellowship in 2018 was a springboard for C. Chapouly, who joined Inserm as a Chargée de Recherche in Unit 1034.
Currently, following on from her previous work, C. Chapouly is developing her own research theme on the interactions between astrocytes and vascular endothelium in small vessel disease, with the aim of identifying the mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of this disease and the cognitive disorders that ensue.
Candice likes hiking, yoga, karaoke, Monty Python and St. Nectaire… A priori, there’s no link between these passions, but the astro-vascular connections undoubtedly have something to do with it!
