{"id":3669,"date":"2026-03-24T12:08:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T11:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/?p=3669"},"modified":"2026-03-24T12:08:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T11:08:18","slug":"launch-of-the-prevention-clinic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/launch-of-the-prevention-clinic\/","title":{"rendered":"Launch of the Prevention Clinic"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;intro&#8221;]Led by the Bordeaux University Hospital (CHU de Bordeaux) and the VBHI Institute, the <a href=\"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/program\/innovation-prevention-clinic\/\">\u00ab VBHI \u2013 Innovation &amp; Prevention clinic \u00bb<\/a>, directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/equipe\/igor-sibon\/\">Pr Igor Sibon<\/a>, interim Director of VBHI, will be officially launched on March 23.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h2>A prevention clinic dedicated to cerebral small vessel disease.<\/h2>\n<p>The creation of the VBHI prevention clinic is part of a broader effort <strong>to prevent cerebral small vessel disease<\/strong>, a silent or \u201coccult\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/vascular-brain-diseases\/\">vascular brain disorder<\/a>, meaning it presents no clinical signs of stroke or associated dementia.<\/p>\n<p>Located within the Neurology Department of Pellegrin Hospital \u2013 CHU de Bordeaux, the VBHI prevention clinic <strong>will strengthen prevention of this condition, foster medical innovation, and improve coordination between community-based and hospital care<\/strong>. To date, it is <strong>the only facility of this scale dedicated to the prevention of cerebral small vessel disease<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>What is cerebral small vessel disease?<\/h2>\n<p>Although little known and <strong>difficult to identify<\/strong>, this disease is nevertheless <strong>extremely common<\/strong> in the general population.<\/p>\n<p>It can only be detected through <strong>brain imaging<\/strong> and is <strong>one of the leading causes of stroke, cognitive disorders and dementia, loss of independence, and death<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The risk of developing this disease increases with age. However, its progression <strong>can be slowed<\/strong> and limited through improved diagnosis, identification of its causes, and the implementation of preventive measures.<\/p>\n<p>The prevention clinic therefore has several <strong>objectives<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to support the development of a care network dedicated to preventing stroke and cognitive disorders in affected patients,<\/li>\n<li>to address the current lack of coordinated care among healthcare providers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Optimized and Tailored Care<\/h2>\n<p>The VBHI Prevention Clinic now provides access to a structured assessment pathway conducted over two separate half-days:<\/p>\n<p><strong>First assessment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>blood sampling for biological testing (cholesterol, blood glucose, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>comprehensive cognitive assessment (memory, attention, executive function, language, praxis, etc.) conducted by a neuropsychologist and a neurologist<\/li>\n<li>implementation of tools for screening for high blood pressure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Second assessment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>analysis and management of hypertension, a major risk factor<\/li>\n<li>dietary assessment<\/li>\n<li>physiotherapy evaluation focusing in particular on motor functions and their interaction with cognitive functions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The multidisciplinary team<\/strong> driving the clinic includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/equipe\/nicolas-borderies\/\">Dr. Nicolas Borderies<\/a>, vascular neurologist at the prevention clinic<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/equipe\/agathe-rousseau\/\">Agathe Rousseau<\/a>, psychologist specializing in neuropsychology<\/li>\n<li>Pascale Michel, Clinical Research Associate<\/li>\n<li>nurses<\/li>\n<li>dietitians<\/li>\n<li>physiotherapists<\/li>\n<li>for ophthalmological examinations: Alexandre Morvan, orthoptist, and <a href=\"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/equipe\/jean-francois-korobelnik\/\">Professor Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Korobelnik<\/a>, ophthalmologist<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vbhi-institute.org\/en\/equipe\/morgane-gaboreau-lachaize\/\">Morgane Gaboreau-Lachaize<\/a>, Head of the Clinical Accelerator, responsible for the smooth running of clinical activities and supervision of the VBHI clinical team<\/li>\n<li>Professor Igor Sibon, Head of the Prevention Clinic<\/li>\n<li>expert patients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The clinic provides an <strong>innovative healthcare model<\/strong> combining:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>diagnosis<\/strong> of the causes of cerebral small vessel disease<\/li>\n<li><strong>assessment<\/strong> of its functional, cognitive, emotional, and motor consequences<\/li>\n<li><strong>personalized patient support and follow-up<\/strong>, including therapeutic education aimed at improving control of vascular risk factors<\/li>\n<li><strong>research into new biomarkers<\/strong> through brain, retinal, and cardiac imaging, as well as blood analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Patient as the Central Figure in Their Care Journey<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>patient<\/strong> plays a <strong>central role<\/strong> in their <strong>own care pathway<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital technologies<\/strong> are used <strong>to engage and support<\/strong> patients in becoming active participants in their care plan and in <strong>sharing their experiences<\/strong> in order to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reduce social isolation<\/li>\n<li>promote mutual support<\/li>\n<li>facilitate access to healthcare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Patient associations<\/strong>, such as the public-interest organization AVC Tous Concern\u00e9s, will also be directly involved and in close interaction with both the clinic and patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More information:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chu-bordeaux.fr\/Espace-m%C3%A9dia\/Communiqu%C3%A9-de-presse\/CP-VBHI-clinique-pr%C3%A9vention-.pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Press release from Bordeaux University Hospital<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>OC[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The VBHI Prevention Clinic to prevent strokes and cognitive disorders is now operational!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1024,"featured_media":3671,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[48,49],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3669","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-care","category-prevention","entry","has-media"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
