The VBHI is particularly interested in covert cerebrovascular diseases, silent conditions that are precursors to more serious diseases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>these hidden cerebrovascular diseases are very common and often go untreated<\/li>\n<li>not enough emphasis is placed on prevention and early detection<\/li>\n<li>there is a lack of treatments targeting the underlying causes of the disease<\/li>\n<li>inequalities increase the risk of developing disabling cerebrovascular disease<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Institute&#8217;s research and innovation priorities<\/h2>\n<p>The Institute&#8217;s research and innovation programmes have two main objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to develop strategies, methods and diagnostic tools for the early detection of hidden cerebrovascular diseases, in particular through stratification and prediction approaches<\/li>\n<li>to accelerate innovation in the therapeutic management of hidden cerebrovascular diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Programmes are impact-driven, aim to engage local and global communities, and are carried out for patients, with patients.<\/p>\n<h2>Partnerships at heart of the Institute<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>150 scientists involved, including seven ERC grants and two Brain Prizes<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Institute boasts a unique research and innovation environment. It pools together cutting-edge and internationally recognized scientific teams in the fields of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>public health<\/li>\n<li>neuroscience and<\/li>\n<li>cardiology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These teams work on programmes that blend these three disciplines and are at the forefront of research techniques that incorporate digital technology, including artificial intelligence and omics approaches, methods used to study various types of biological data on a large scale.<\/p>\n<p>Open to partnership with international research centres, industry and start-ups, the VBHI encourages co-development and open innovation, particularly through its technology platforms and cohorts. Its aim is to accelerate the availability of knowledge and expertise that can have an impact on preventing and combating neurovascular diseases.<\/p>\n<p>As of 2028, the VBHI will be set up to welcome its partners to a building dedicated to translational research on neurovascular diseases, covering more than 5,000 m2. This building will be located at the heart of the biomedical campus of the University of Bordeaux, in the immediate vicinity of the Bordeaux University Hospital and the new prevention
